Paramus, NJ (July 5, 2024) – A wrong-way crash on the Garden State Parkway in Bergen County has left two people dead and one hospitalized, per local authorities who reported to the scene of the deadly incident.
The vehicle crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. on Friday, July 5, at milepost 163.4 in Paramus. State Police say a Honda sedan was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Toyota SUV. Two of the occupants in the vehicles were killed, while a 20-year-old passenger in the Toyota was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries. It’s unclear if anybody else was injured or assessed by EMTs, however.
State police added they are still investigating how the Honda’s driver got on the parkway heading in the wrong direction and whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Investigators are working to determine what led up to the crash, and witnesses were asked to get in touch with the Paramus Police Department with additional information.
Our deepest condolences are extended to the loved ones of the deceased victims. Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes in New Jersey
Major multi-vehicle accidents involving passenger vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, and buses happen daily in the Garden State. Thousands of individuals are tragically killed or wounded every year in these incidents, despite efforts by the government, automakers, and traffic experts to promote safe driving. In reality, New Jersey accounts for over 5% of the over 32,000 yearly fatal traffic accidents in the United States. More than 276,000 car accidents were reported to transportation officials in New Jersey in a single recent year, resulting in over 60,000 injuries.
Increases in traffic accidents occur despite better car and road safety, posing a threat to all drivers. Fortunately, the law may provide some remedies if an accident claims the life of a beloved family member. Contact a trained lawyer who has handled situations similar to yours as soon as possible. If you want your legal team to have enough time to gather evidence, arrange the facts of your case, and build a sound claim on your behalf, it’s ideal to obtain legal counsel and skilled assistance as soon as possible.
