Philadelphia, PA (January 5, 2022) – Around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, January 5, a 20-vehicle collision involving a SEPTA bus occurred in Philadelphia.
According to Philadelphia officials, the accident happened on the Passyunk Avenue Bridge as icy conditions caused accidents across the state. It is believed that several of the vehicles were traveling too quickly on the icy conditions. This caused multiple vehicles to lose control and crash into one another. Several of the vehicles were extensively damaged as a result.
Local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Two passengers were on the SEPTA bus at the time of the collision. One person was transported to the hospital but is expected to be okay. Several other parties in the other involved vehicles also sustained injuries but should recover.
The bridge was closed down for hours in both directions following the crash. It reopened in both lanes around 9 a.m.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
