Philadelphia, PA (February 1, 2022) – An officer was injured in a car crash that happened at an intersection in Philadelphia on Monday night, January 31.
Philadelphia Police confirmed that the accident occurred late at night at the intersection of 57th Street and Arch Street. Officers were in the area and were attempting to stop a Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the Malibu allegedly stole a vehicle near the intersection. During the pursuit, the driver of the Malibu rear-ended the officer’s cruiser and then fled the scene, crashing on Walnut Street. They also collided with two parked vehicles along the way.
Paramedics, fire crews, and various other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The officer in the cruiser was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to fully recover.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for a period of time. Police confirmed that the two suspects inside the Malibu got out of the vehicle following the collision and fled the scene on foot. Police have not said if they found those responsible for the accident at this time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
