Abington, PA (September 29, 2023) – On Thursday evening, a 7-year-old child was hit by a vehicle in Montgomery County, according to local police officers.
The incident occurred in Abington, Pennsylvania, around 8:30 p.m., in the 900 block of Township Line Road.
EMTs transported the child to Jefferson Abington Hospital for treatment, though there has been no update on her condition as of yet.
What caused the collision is still under investigation by the police. However, the driver involved stayed at the site and is reportedly aiding authorities in their investigation.
Police blocked off a section of Township Line Road between Forrest Avenue and West Avenue after the accident to wrap up their on-scene inquiry. Any witnesses were asked to get in touch with the Abington Police Department in the meantime.
Our thoughts are with the injured child and her family members. We hope for her complete recovery.
Pedestrian Crashes in Philadelphia
Unfortunately, Pennsylvania’s yearly statistics show an increase in both the frequency and severity of pedestrian accidents. While fatalities decreased in 2016, there was an increase in the number of accidents that occurred on American roads. Signalized junctions have had a 20-year rise in deaths, while distracted driving and head-on collisions have seen an increase in mortality during the last decade. The 65-74 age group ranks second in pedestrian deaths and third in vehicle deaths during the last two decades.
In addition, the number of pedestrian deaths throughout the nation has risen dramatically during the last decade. The Governors Highway Safety Association projects a 13% increase in road deaths between 2010 and 2020, with a 54% increase in pedestrian fatalities.
Pedestrian accidents may happen everywhere, but roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots are particularly high-risk areas. The rising frequency of pedestrian accidents in our state highlights the need to provide victims with information about their legal rights and remedies.
