Cumberland, PA (September 20, 2023) – At around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, a collision was reported on Pennsylvania Highway 581 eastbound, according to PennDOT, and at least one person was killed.
PennDOT’s Safety Press Officer Fritzi Schreffler said that two cars collided on the PA 581 east on-ramp from Route 15, just before Exit 5 to Gettysburg/Camp Hill.
A third car crashed into the rear of a tow truck as it was pulled over to assist with the initial collision. Schreffler claims that the driver of one of the vehicles, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers were transferred to Penn State Holy Medical Spirit Center with life-threatening injuries. The total number of injuries between the first and second collisions was unknown, however.
All lanes were restricted for several hours. The roadway has since reopened, but the investigation into the accident remains active.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased man’s family. Our thoughts are extended to all injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
Deadly Car Accidents in Pennsylvania
Head-on collisions, T-bone collisions, and rear-end collisions are the three most common kinds of vehicle accidents in Pennsylvania, according to research and data gathered over the course of the preceding year. Motorists in Pennsylvania need to be especially cautious since the state averages over 20,000 accidents each year involving three or more automobiles.
Rear-end collisions often occur because of reckless driving. Most rear-end incidents in Pennsylvania are caused by drivers who are careless and reckless and who disregard traffic signals. In addition, finding culpability in a car crash may be very easy most of the time, but it may be rather difficult at other times.
In a rear-end accident, the severity of your injuries is proportional to the speed of the other vehicle. Most rear-end crashes occur when a driver in front of you suddenly applies the brakes, causing the car behind you to slam into you.
The person who rear-ended you and seriously wounded you should pay for your medical bills and lost wages if they were not at fault.
Insurance companies may try to get out of paying for a policyholder’s long-term care or lost income and future earning potential if the policyholder is rendered incapable in an automobile accident.
