Egg Harbor Township, NJ (May 6, 2024) – An 87-year-old man was killed in a pre-dawn crash in Egg Harbor Township Monday morning.
The accident happened around 2:45 a.m. at Delaware Avenue and Fernwood Avenue. According to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 19-year-old man was headed westbound on Delaware Avenue, approaching the intersection of Fernwood. A Toyota Camry, driven by an 87-year-old man and occupied by an 83-year-old woman, was on Fernwood at the stop sign and waiting to cross Delaware when the first vehicle hit the Camry on its driver’s side, causing both vehicles to go off the roadway.
As a result of the crash, the Camry driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. The passenger was ultimately taken to Cooper Hospital in Camden due to significant injuries, but her current condition is unknown. Police say traffic was detoured for four hours as the scene was cleared, though an investigation into the accident remains ongoing, and it’s unclear if citations are currently pending.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her loved ones.
