Harrisburg, PA (January 9, 2024) – A deadly pedestrian accident occurred in Harrisburg on Wednesday, and police say that a driver is now facing charges.
Officers with the Harrisburg Police Department say the victim was struck by a 31-year-old man from Middletown, who did not stop or report the event to the authorities, according to a criminal complaint. The 34-year-old male pedestrian was assisting a broken-down vehicle on South Cameron Street when the incident took place. The driver involved fled the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead a short time later, per police.
According to investigators, they later found damage to the hood and windshield of the suspect’s silver Pontiac Grand Prix that was consistent with striking a person. He is now being charged, officers stated. An investigation remains active, however, and no further details were provided.
Our sincere condolences are with the deceased man’s loved ones.
Fatal Car Accidents in Pennsylvania
According to data collected from Pennsylvania roadways over the last year, rear-end crashes are the second most prevalent kind of car accident. More than 20,000 incidents each year involving several vehicles are reported in Pennsylvania, so drivers there should exercise extra caution.
Reckless driving is a frequent cause of accidents. In Pennsylvania, cars that disregard traffic lights are the primary cause of rear-end accidents. Sometimes, it’s easy to see who’s at blame in a rear-end incident, but other times, it might be more complicated.
In a rear-end collision, the degree of injury is largely determined by the speed of the vehicle that caused the collision. Most rear-end collisions occur when one motorist suddenly stops, sending the vehicle in front of them careening into oncoming traffic.
If you were injured in a rear-end collision, the irresponsible driver should cover your medical expenses and lost income. If a policyholder is rendered permanently disabled due to a vehicle accident, the insurance company may attempt to avoid paying for the policyholder’s long-term care or lost income and future earning potential.
