Jackson Township, NJ (October 10, 2025) – A tragic motor vehicle collision in Jackson Township claimed the life of a local high school student and left two others injured on Thursday afternoon, October 9, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities reported that emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after the crash occurred. Investigators determined that the incident involved a Ford vehicle carrying two young passengers and another vehicle operated by the teenage victim. Upon arrival, first responders found the teen unresponsive.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz confirmed that CPR was immediately administered at the scene. The teen was transported by Jackson Township EMS to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was later pronounced deceased.
An 18-year-old female driver of the Ford and her front-seat passenger sustained minor injuries and were also transported to the same hospital for treatment, officials said.
The Jackson School District identified the deceased teen as a student at Jackson Township High School. Superintendent Nicole Pormilli released a statement acknowledging the loss, expressing condolences to the student’s family, and emphasizing the district’s support for affected students and staff. Counseling and crisis resources were made available to assist the school community in coping with the tragedy.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The office’s Vehicular Homicide Squad, in coordination with Jackson Township police, continues to review evidence and interview witnesses to determine the sequence of events leading to the collision.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the young victim during this time of profound loss.
Teen Traffic Fatalities and Road Safety in New Jersey
Fatal crashes involving teenage drivers continue to raise concern across New Jersey communities. Young and inexperienced drivers are statistically at higher risk of serious or fatal accidents due to factors such as inattention, excessive speed, and limited driving experience. Even minor misjudgments on local roads can result in devastating consequences for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.
In response to these incidents, New Jersey maintains a Graduated Driver License (GDL) program designed to help teens gain experience under less risky conditions. However, despite preventive measures, tragic accidents involving young drivers continue to occur each year. These events often leave families facing significant emotional and financial burdens.
Families affected by fatal crashes often seek legal and emotional support to navigate the aftermath. Understanding liability, insurance procedures, and potential claims for wrongful death or medical expenses can be challenging during such a difficult time. Having experienced legal guidance can help families pursue justice and ensure that their loved one’s rights are protected.
