Monmouth County, NJ (April 21, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision on the New Jersey Turnpike early Saturday morning, April 19, claimed the life of a Monmouth County man and left several vehicles damaged, according to information released by the New Jersey State Police.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. on the southbound inner roadway of the Turnpike near milepost 94.6 in Woodbridge, state police officials said.
Police said a man was driving a Chevrolet Malibu southbound when his vehicle was struck from behind by a Mazda CX-5. The impact caused both cars to veer off the road, hit the guardrail, and then reenter the Turnpike, where they became disabled in the travel lanes. A third vehicle, a Toyota, pulled over to assist shortly thereafter.
A fourth vehicle—a Mercedes-Benz C300—then approached and collided with both the disabled Chevrolet and the parked Toyota. The force of that collision caused the Toyota to crash into the Mazda. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation, however. No additional details were released.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s loved ones. Our thoughts also go out to any injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Major Vehicle Crashes in New Jersey
Tragically, thousands of people are killed or wounded in multi-vehicle crashes throughout New Jersey yearly, even though there are more and more programs urging safe driving and efforts made by politicians, manufacturers, and traffic experts. In fact, our state’s transportation authorities reported more than 276,000 auto accidents in New Jersey in a single recent year, injuring almost 60,000 individuals as a direct consequence.
Every driver has a legal responsibility to operate their vehicle safely and avoid putting the lives of other drivers or bystanders in the area at risk or causing them harm. Unfortunately, not all drivers meet this unspoken duty. When drivers are careless on the road, they put themselves and other drivers in danger and may even cause fatal collisions. Increases in traffic accidents occur despite better car and road safety, posing a threat to all drivers.
