Pemberton, NJ (April 20, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal apartment fire that broke out around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, in Pemberton.
According to officials, the apartment fire broke out on Egbert Street in the early morning hours. Fire crews responded to the scene where they discovered that flames and smoke were already shooting out of the building. The flames became so intense that they melted the siding on the home next door and smoke flooded the building. Neighbors banged on doors so that everybody would evacuate the building.
Paramedics and other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. A 72-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital with smoke inhalation injuries. A 62-year-old man was seriously injured and was flown to the hospital. A man was also tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.
A total of 19 people were displaced by the fire. Fire crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
All day Wednesday, fire crews and investigators were searching for clues on what may have caused the fire. The investigation into the fire continues.
