Philadelphia, PA (September 21, 2023) – A 20-year-old man died, and two children were injured after a Dodge Charger crashed into a SEPTA trolley in Philadelphia’s Overbrook area on Thursday night, officers with the Philadelphia Police Department said.
The incident occurred near 59th Street and Lansdowne Avenue at around 8:20 p.m., according to the PPD.
After hitting the SEPTA trolley, the Dodge reportedly took fire, according to the police. About 8:30 that evening, the driver was brought to Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, where he later died.
Police said the two injured children were riding on the trolley with their mom. Both of them were brought to the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital. There were a total of nine individuals on board, including the trolley driver.
Although the investigation is still underway, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small indicated that early evidence reveals the trolley had the green light.
We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased man’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones.
