Philadelphia, PA (August 28, 2023) – The Delaware County Fraternal Order of Police is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday in Southwest Philadelphia.
On Saturday morning, a Honda Accord heading south on 84th Street allegedly hit a 27-year-old woman, prompting police to the scene.
The victim was crossing Lindbergh Boulevard westbound when was reportedly struck by the car. The driver then allegedly fled from the scene.
Just before 2:40 a.m., emergency personnel declared the 27-year-old woman dead at the site. The police found and towed the hit-and-run car, but the identity of the driver remains a mystery.
The Darby Township Police Department and the Sharon Hill Police Department have both announced that they would be collaborating with the investigation into the hit-and-run. The vehicle was reported to be parked in the 100 block of Greenwood Road over the previous several days, according to a press release from SHPD on Saturday, but no further details were provided.
An investigation remains active and ongoing.
We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased woman’s family.
Pedestrian Deaths in Philadelphia
According to annual data compiled in Pennsylvania, the number and severity of pedestrian accidents have been rising. Even while the number of deaths on American roadways decreased last year, the total number of accidents rose. While there has been a ten percent rise in fatalities caused by inattentive driving or head-on crashes, there has been a twenty percent increase in mortality at signalized crossroads. In the previous 20 years, people between the ages of 65 and 74 have been involved in the second-most pedestrian fatalities and the third-most traffic deaths.

The number of pedestrian fatalities has also increased dramatically over the last decade throughout the country. Preliminary data from the Governors Highway Safety Association suggests that the total number of traffic fatalities will rise by 13% between 2010 and 2020, while the number of pedestrian fatalities will rise by 54% over the same time period.
Sidewalks, crosswalks, and parking lots are the most common sites of pedestrian accidents, although they may happen anywhere. Those who are critically injured in one of the many pedestrian incidents that occur in our state each year should be aware of their legal options.
