Philadelphia, PA (July 29, 2023) – Early on Friday, a hit-and-run in Northeast Philadelphia claimed the life of a teenage bicyclist.
At around 4:30 a.m. in the morning, the collision occurred close to the School Bus Depot, at the intersection of Byberry and Woodhaven Roads.
The 16-year-old victim was discovered by police lying in the outside westbound lanes of Woodhaven Road. He had suffered significant injuries to his face, head, chest, and back. The teenager passed away after being taken to a local hospital.
Investigators think that speed may have played a role, though the suspected at-fault driver fled the scene after the collision. Authorities have launched a preliminary inquiry and are searching for a Dodge with front-end damage.
Our deepest condolences are extended to the deceased victim’s family members.
Bicycle Wrecks in Pennsylvania
It’s common knowledge that cyclists who are involved in accidents often suffer life-threatening wounds. Obviously, this is partly because cyclists, unlike passengers in cars, have no protection from serious injury in the case of an accident.
In reality, over 840 people riding bicycles died in incidents in the United States in 2019. These terrible incidents, particularly in Pennsylvania’s larger cities, are unfortunately not uncommon.
The safety of bicycles depends on the drivers of motor vehicles paying strict attention to the roadways at all times. A bicycle accident, however, may happen in the blink of an eye, and therefore, this is not always the case. You may be wondering what to do after losing a family one in an avoidable bicycle accident.
