Pedestrian Deaths in Philadelphia
Tragically, Pennsylvania’s annual statistics on pedestrian accidents reveal an increase in severity over time. In 2016, fewer people died on American roads overall, although there were more of certain accident types. The number of deaths at signalized junctions increased during the last two decades, while the number of fatalities from distracted driving and head-on collisions rose over the last 10 years. Meanwhile, the second-highest number of pedestrian deaths and the third-highest number of traffic fatalities in the last 20 years affect children, as well as those aged 65 to 74.
Additionally, the number of pedestrian deaths nationwide has significantly increased during the last 10 years. The number of road deaths will increase by 13% between 2010 and 2020, while the number of pedestrian fatalities will increase by 54% over the same period, according to preliminary estimates from the Governors Highway Safety Association.
Pedestrian accidents often happen at parking lots, crosswalks, and on sidewalks, while they might happen anywhere. People who suffer serious injuries in accidents should be aware of their legal rights due to the high incidence of pedestrian accidents in our state.
