Pedestrian Crash Injuries in Philadelphia
According to Pennsylvania pedestrian accident data collected between 2012 and 2020, an average of 160 pedestrians died in fatal crashes annually in Pennsylvania. Sadly, Philadelphia’s current pedestrian fatality rate is close to two per 100,000 residents.
Often, pedestrian incidents caused by negligence result in fatalities. Too-dark roads, distracted drivers, and vehicles that fail to yield can all contribute to fatal pedestrian accidents. In low-light conditions, it may be difficult to detect pedestrians, which can contribute to collisions. This is especially true for individuals donning dark clothing who walk at night or early in the morning.
When drivers are distracted by their phones or other responsibilities, they are more likely not to see pedestrians or other vehicles at the upcoming intersection. In our state, drivers who refuse to yield to pedestrians continue to cause numerous avoidable deaths.
Dealing with losing a loved one due to the irresponsibility of another motorist can be extremely traumatic. Frequently, funeral costs, lost earning potential, and other repercussions put a significant financial strain on families. A Philadelphia wrongful death attorney could help your family obtain justice by pursuing compensation for these and other losses if a family member was killed in a horrific vehicle accident.
