Causes of Motor Scooter Crashes in Pennsylvania
When someone opens up an app on their smartphone and rents a motorized scooter, they want it to get them where they need to go safely, efficiently, and quickly. Sadly, for a lot of riders, their travels are cut short when they are involved in an accident.
A few of the most frequent causes of Pennsylvania motorized scooter accidents include:
Road Hazards: The scooters provided by companies like Bird, Lime, Jump, and Ojo are able to reach speeds of 15 miles per hour. At this speed, when a rider hits a fallen branch, pothole, or any other hazard in the roadway, they can be ejected from the vehicle.
If an accident like this occurs, the injured victim could be entitled to file a lawsuit against the city.
Equipment Malfunctions: Motorized scooter companies have a duty to supply their patrons with vehicles that are safe and well-maintained. Regrettably, they do not always take the necessary steps to meet their legal obligations. Due to this, it is not unusual for riders to be involved in accidents because a scooter’s handlebars collapsed or its brakes failed.
Victims who have sustained injuries resulting from a scooter malfunction are typically able to bring a compensation claim against either the company that runs the share program or the manufacturer of the vehicle itself.
Collisions With Motor Vehicles
In most metropolitan areas of the United States, scooters are prohibited from being ridden on footpaths and sidewalks. Instead, they must be driven on the roadway. This can cause a scooter rider to be hit by a car, truck, or other motor vehicle leaving them with serious injuries.
A rider who is injured in this type of crash might be able to seek financial compensation from the driver of the vehicle.
