Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian accidents are more common in New Jersey than many other states in the U.S. In fact, hundreds of pedestrians lose their lives in fatal accidents every year within the state due to the negligence of others. In 2021 alone, it was reported that approximately 207 pedestrians were killed and many others were injured in these horrific accidents. The truth is, pedestrian accidents continue to happen even though drivers are supposed to be watching out for these victims at all times. If you have sustained injuries caused by a severe and preventable pedestrian accident, you should be prepared to speak with an attorney that you can rely on.
Drivers are expected to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at all times on New Jersey roads, especially in areas where they are expected to be. Intersections are a common place for pedestrians to cross the street, which means that these areas are more likely for these severe accidents to occur. Many serious injuries result from pedestrian accidents every year, including some of the following:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Organ damage
- Fractures
The injuries that stem from a pedestrian accident could signal a long road to recovery that you may not be prepared for. Because of this, you should speak with a Toms River pedestrian accident attorney as soon as possible.
