Toms River, NJ (March 21, 2022) – Serious injuries were reported in a house fire that took place in Toms River on Sunday night, March 20.
According to local officials, the fire broke out in a structure on Mt. Everest Lane. Fire crews immediately responded to calls that they received around 9:45 p.m. at night. When they arrived at the home, they found that it was completely engulfed in smoke and flames. Fire crews entered to attempt to save those inside. Two victims were inside and unconscious and were pulled to safety.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help. Three firemen and one police officer sustained minor injuries in the fire. The two victims who were found unconscious inside the home, identified as a man and a woman, were taken to Cooper Barnabas Medical Center’s burn center with critical injuries by medical helicopter. Their current conditions are not yet known.
The area was blocked off for some time as fire crews brought this fire and another nearby fire under control.
The investigation into the circumstances of the fire continues. Police will update as more information is available.
