West View, PA (September 27, 2025) – A fatal traffic collision that occurred on Thursday morning, September 25, left a 19-year-old woman dead, according to the Allegheny County Police Department. The crash took place at approximately 6:13 a.m. on September 25 at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Cornell Avenue in West View.
Preliminary investigation indicates that three vehicles had come to a stop in the left-hand lane of Highland Avenue when the third vehicle attempted to pass the two vehicles by entering the opposing traffic lane. As this maneuver was underway, the first vehicle in the stopped line attempted to execute a left turn onto Cornell Avenue. The passing vehicle and the turning vehicle collided, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles.
Responding emergency services arrived on the scene, but the female driver, later identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office as 19-year-old Addalena Maiette, was found deceased. Investigators have not yet determined which vehicle was making the pass or which was making the left turn, due in part to the extensive damage sustained by both involved vehicles.
Authorities report that a male driver in one of the other vehicles involved was uninjured. The crash also caused infrastructure damage, including the collapse of a utility pole, which led to power outages affecting nearly 1,000 residents. The power disruption prompted the temporary closure of area schools within the Northgate and North Hills school districts.
The Allegheny County Police Department continues to investigate the collision, reviewing evidence, examining vehicle damage, and interviewing witnesses to reconstruct the events. Additional findings will be released as the investigation proceeds.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased victim.
Two-Vehicle Accidents at Intersections in Pennsylvania
Crashes between vehicles at intersections, especially when involving passing maneuvers or unexpected turns, present a substantial risk of serious and fatal injuries. The combination of limited visibility, conflicting vehicle paths, and reaction time constraints creates conditions under which collisions can easily occur. In many cases, the precise sequence of actions leading to the crash is difficult to determine, particularly when the vehicles suffer heavy damage.
In urban and suburban areas like West View, intersection collisions can also create broader public hazards, such as damage to utility poles, downed power lines, and service interruptions. These secondary impacts can endanger public safety and complicate rescue, recovery, and investigation operations.
Victims and surviving family members in fatal accidents often face multiple challenges: funeral and related costs, establishing liability, navigating insurance coverage, and pursuing compensation for loss of support and emotional damages. In a case where fault is ambiguous, and critical physical evidence is severely damaged, the role of thorough investigation becomes especially pivotal.
Securing experienced legal counsel is essential under these circumstances. A qualified Pennsylvania wrongful death or personal injury attorney can assist in tracing liability, gathering and preserving evidence, consulting with accident reconstruction experts, and negotiating with insurance carriers. In addition, legal representation can help families obtain just compensation for a broad range of losses, including funeral expenses, loss of future support, and emotional suffering.
