Worcester, PA (October 24, 2023) – A state police spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday that a third person died after a crash over the weekend on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The accident, according to state police, happened at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Worcester Township, Montgomery County, on I-476’s Northeast Extension.
According to officers, a car with a flat tire pulled over to the side of the road, prompting the driver of the car behind it to also stop and turn on his warning lights. Authorities say that the truck was unable to stop and collided with the two vehicles, setting all three on fire.
State police spokesman Myles Snyder said that the tanker truck driver and two passengers in the box truck all died as a result of their injuries. Authorities are still trying to verify their identities.
A third driver suffered injuries but has since been released from the hospital.
No further details were made available, but an investigation is still ongoing.
