Burrell Township, PA (September 8, 2025) – A tragic collision occurred Friday evening, September 5, in Burrell Township when a vehicle ran a red light, resulting in the death of a 102-year-old woman. The crash took place just before 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Resort Plaza Drive and State Route 22.
The Pennsylvania State Police preliminary investigation revealed that a driver traveling eastbound on State Route 22 disregarded a steady red light while another vehicle, with a green light, was making a left turn from Resort Plaza Drive onto the highway. The eastbound vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to and struck the turning vehicle.
The force of the impact caused the first vehicle to overturn, sending it across the lanes of travel. The vehicle came to a stop on its driver’s side, facing south on State Route 22. The second vehicle spun 180 degrees before coming to a halt in the intersection.
The driver of the first vehicle suffered minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital, while one passenger was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital by ambulance, and another passenger was transported to a hospital in Indiana County.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends, and we hope for comfort and healing in the days ahead.
The Dangers of Red-Light Violations in Traffic Accidents
Red-light violations continue to be a leading cause of serious and fatal traffic accidents. When a vehicle disregards traffic signals, it can result in high-impact collisions, often causing severe injuries or fatalities. In this tragic case, the 102-year-old woman’s death highlights the severe consequences of such violations.
Accidents caused by red-light violations often result in catastrophic injuries, particularly when vehicles collide at high speeds. The elderly are especially vulnerable to life-threatening injuries in such crashes, as their bodies are more fragile and less able to withstand the force of impact.
The aftermath of such an accident can be overwhelming for victims and their families. Medical treatment, long-term care, and rehabilitation can place a significant financial burden on those involved. In addition, the emotional toll of losing a loved one in such a senseless accident can be immense.
If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident caused by a red-light violation, it is essential to seek experienced legal guidance.
