Chester, PA (January 10, 2024) – A motorist fled a local crash scene on foot after a three-car accident occurred on Interstate 95 near the Commodore Barry Bridge in Chester early Friday morning, and officers with the Chester Police Department have now released additional details in connection with the wreck.
The crash took place on I-95 northbound at mile marker 4, blocking the highway for several hours and resulting in serious delays in the area. Troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police said the incident happened just before 2:00 a.m. when one driver traveling in the center lanes struck another motorist, lost control of their vehicle, and hit a third driver. One of the vehicles involved also rolled multiple times as a result of the collision.
Two people in that car were ejected and sustained severe injuries, police added, though the total number of victims and injuries involved is still unknown. The hit-and-run driver has since been apprehended and charged with driving under the influence, but no further details have been provided, and police say their investigation is still ongoing.
