Philadelphia, PA (January 4, 2023) – Two people were killed, and one other person was hurt after a multi-vehicle accident on I-95 in Philadelphia that occurred early Wednesday morning, January 4.
The accident reportedly occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Port Richmond on the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Allegheny Avenue.
Police said a motorist stopped in the northbound right center lane at Exit 25 for unclear reasons when another driver rear-ended their vehicle. As a result of the collision, the first vehicle’s driver was ejected from their car and declared deceased at the site.
The second car, according to the police, kept traveling north and flipped many times before stopping in the left center lane. EMTs attempted life-saving measures, but the second driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The third driver then collided with the second car’s rear, crossed all traffic lanes, and struck a concrete barrier on the highway’s right shoulder. That motorist was being treated at Temple University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
As police conducted their investigation, both northbound lanes were blocked for almost five hours, but the situation was cleared shortly before 6:00 a.m.
An open inquiry is still continuing. In the meantime, Philadelphia Police officers have asked any witnesses to come forward if they have additional information.
Our sincerest condolences are extended to the deceased victims’ families. The injured victims and their families are in our thoughts in the hopes of a full recovery.
