Providence Township, NJ (August 10, 2024) – Two New Providence police officers were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 78 westbound on Friday, August 9, at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The accident occurred near mile marker 43 when a westbound Honda Odyssey collided with the rear of a New Providence patrol vehicle that was parked on the westbound shoulder with its emergency lights flashing. The impact caused a chain reaction involving a second New Providence patrol vehicle and a Mercedes Benz that the officers had initially stopped.
The two injured New Providence officers were transported to Morristown Medical Center, where they are reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the Honda Odyssey also sustained injuries and was taken to the same hospital. The occupants of the Mercedes Benz, who were inside a tow truck at the time, were evaluated by emergency medical services (EMS), though their current conditions are not known. In the meantime, an investigation is still ongoing and it’s being handled by local law enforcement authorities.
