Tobyhanna Township, PA (February 21, 2026) – A man died after being ejected from a work van during a single-vehicle crash on Friday morning on Interstate 380 in Monroe County. The accident occurred on February 20 as the van traveled northbound in slushy road conditions.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the van was moving too fast to safely navigate the roadway when the driver lost control. The vehicle struck a guide rail on the left shoulder in Tobyhanna Township and then rolled over multiple times.
Officials said the van was carrying several passengers at the time of the crash. One passenger was ejected onto the right shoulder during the rollover. He was identified as 30-year-old Osman A. Perez of New Jersey.
Perez was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono, where he was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled for February 21.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Ovidio Sarceno-Gonzalez of Trenton, New Jersey, survived the crash. Two additional passengers were taken to Lehigh Valley Pocono Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
How Slushy Road Conditions Increase the Risk of Rollover Crashes in New Jersey
Slushy and icy road conditions can significantly reduce tire traction, making it harder for drivers to maintain control. When vehicles travel at unsafe speeds in winter weather, even small steering movements can lead to skidding. Highways like I-380 can become especially dangerous when snow and slush build up quickly.
Rollover accidents often result in severe injuries because occupants may be thrown against the interior of the vehicle. Ejections increase the risk of fatal harm, particularly if seat belts are not used or if the impact is violent. Even passengers who remain inside the vehicle can suffer head trauma, broken bones, or internal injuries.
After a serious rollover crash, families may have questions about medical expenses, insurance coverage, and available next steps. Keeping hospital records, crash reports, and related documents organized can help clarify what options may exist. Weather conditions may also factor into how liability is reviewed.
An experienced wrongful death lawyer can examine the facts surrounding a rollover crash and outline what courses of action might be available. An attorney can also help sort through insurance questions and discuss whether compensation could be pursued based on the specific details involved.
