Toms River, NJ (February 14, 2022) – On Saturday evening, February 12, a hit-and-run crash took place at an intersection in Toms River.
According to Ocean County officials, the accident happened around 6 p.m. at the intersection of NJ-70 and Colonial Drive. Officers discovered that a Kingston man was traveling west at a high rate of speed when he breezed through a red light. His vehicle slammed into a Jeep Cherokee and a Mercedes. From there, his vehicle struck a pole and immediately burst into flames. The driver got out of his vehicle and fled the scene of the accident.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One person needed serious medical attention due to their injuries. Nobody else was hurt as a result of the accident.
Police have issued a warrant for arrest on the Kingston man. His charges include assault by auto, leaving the scene of a collision with serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, and more.
The roadway was blocked in the area due to the severity of the collision. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
