Camp Hill, PA (September 19, 2024) – Police say that a multi-vehicle crash shut down a stretch of Route 581 in Cumberland County on Thursday, September 19.
According to the PennDOT, the accident happened in the westbound lanes near Exit 5, Route 11/Route 15/South Gettysburg, in Camp Hill Borough. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 10:40 a.m. All lanes of Route 581 Westbound were shut down in the area of Exit 5, causing a massive backup and severe delays.
The extent of injuries is unknown at this time, though at least one person was transported to an area hospital. However, there was no word on any other injuries, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officers with the Camp Hill Police Department are handling the active inquiry but have not released additional details. Witnesses were asked to step forward as soon as possible in the meantime.
