Chambersburg, PA (April 17, 2023) – On Friday, April 14, a major vehicle crash happened in Chambersburg, Franklin County, leaving one person dead and seven others injured.
The incident, which occurred on the eastbound side of the Lincoln Highway near the on-ramp to Interstate 81 southbound, is currently under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP).
Early reports indicate that the driver of a blue Toyota Camry was merging onto the southbound I-81 ramp when they pulled into the path of a white Dodge Ram and collided with the pickup truck. The Dodge Ram’s driver lost control as a result of the wreck’s impact, and the truck rolled several times before coming to rest on the highway.
A woman riding in the Camry’s right back seat was also thrown from the car during the accident. Four people in the Toyota Camry, including the driver, were ultimately hurt, and three of those victims were hospitalized. State Police troopers added that the driver and two passengers of the Dodge Ram were also transferred to an area hospital for medical treatment.
PSP reported that the woman who was thrown from the Camry, later identified as 24-year-old Claudia Flores-Garcia from Chambersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No additional details have been released, but the investigation continues in the meantime.
Our deepest condolences go out to Claudia Flores-Garcia’s family. Our thoughts are with all of the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
Fatalities in Motor Vehicle Wrecks Across Pennsylvania
Some of the most deadly vehicle accidents in the United States have occurred on multi-lane interstates, highways, and other major, heavily-traveled thoroughfares, particularly those that run through our densely-populated cities.
Every year, far too many people—especially Pennsylvanians—die or are wounded in car accidents on our highways. In fact, the most recent numbers reveal that mortality rates in our state are rising. In 2020, roughly 1,130 people were killed in vehicle accidents when traffic was lower than usual. In addition, the number of fatalities caused by automobile accidents in Pennsylvania rose again in 2021, this time by around 9% to 1,230.
When drivers are careless or don’t follow the laws of the road, incidents like these may happen in a split second. Every driver has a responsibility to operate their vehicle safely and avoid doing anything that might put the lives of other drivers at risk or cause damage or injury to other road users. Sadly, not all drivers are aware of and adhere to this unspoken code of conduct. Careless motorists pose a threat to other road users and may result in severe injuries or even fatalities.
Of course, the legal system in Pennsylvania is intricate, so you should expect to face challenges and issues for which you may not have a ready solution. If you’ve been harmed in a vehicle crash, you should talk to a lawyer who focuses on these cases for these and other reasons.
The good news is that a lawyer can assist you with anything from obtaining proof of carelessness to fulfilling your state’s criteria.
