Chester, PA (May 6, 2022) – Around 7 a.m. on Friday morning, May 6, one person was killed in a fatal truck crash on a bridge in Chester.
Delaware County officials confirmed that the accident happened on Route 291 on the Commodore Barry Bridge not far from the area of Subaru Park. A passenger vehicle was traveling in the area when it became involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer due to reasons that are not yet known. The passenger vehicle was pinned under the back of the truck when crews arrived at the scene.
Several local responders, including Delaware County paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. A front-seat passenger sustained injuries as a result of the accident. There was also an infant in the back seat but they were not hurt.
The roadway was completely shut down in both directions as police worked to clear the scene.
