Chesterfield Twnshp, NJ (June 18, 2022) – New Jersey State Police Public Information Unit Sgt. Alejandro Goez stated that a tragic collision occurred at 3:30 a.m. on the northbound New Jersey Turnpike near Mile Post 56.8 on Saturday, June 18.
The early investigation suggests that a tractor-trailer driving north collided with a disabled Ford Ecosport in the right lane, which was empty and pulled to the side of the roadway as a result of an earlier collision. The tractor-trailer then veered to the right, collided with the railing, and entered the outer carriageway, where it hit a person standing on the left shoulder before engulfing into flames.
The pedestrian, identified only as a 47-year-old male from Bensalem, Pennsylvania, suffered fatal injuries as a result. The tractor-trailer driver was not wounded.
Preliminary information from the New Jersey State Police indicates that the circumstances surrounding the event are still being investigated. No charges have been filed as of yet.
The family members of the deceased man are in our sincere thoughts, and we extend them our deepest condolences.
