Philadelphia, PA (October 5, 2026) – A person on a bicycle was injured early Sunday morning, October 4, when a driver struck them in the 5400 block of Broad Street in Philadelphia’s Logan section.
After the accident, the driver sped away without stopping to help the rider.
According to a dashcam video, an orange or burgundy car hit the rider while doing a donut and raced off. Emergency units treated the rider on the street, and a witness said the rider was conscious and talking.
The full scope of the rider’s injuries has not been disclosed.
The investigation into this crash remains active.
We wish the cyclist a full and speedy recovery.
Can Uninsured Motorist Coverage Apply to a Hit-and-Run in Philadelphia, PA?
In Pennsylvania, uninsured motorist (UM) coverage can apply when a driver cannot be identified, though that depends on whether the person carries a policy with UM, what the policy says, and whether its reporting conditions were met.
Pennsylvania insurers must offer UM coverage, but a policyholder can reject it in writing, so some drivers do not have it. When it applies, a person hit by an unidentified driver may sometimes seek benefits under his or her own policy or a household member’s policy.
The policy’s tort election matters too, because if someone chooses a limited tort, it can restrict recovery for non-economic losses such as pain and suffering unless an exception applies.
Insurers may contest whether an unidentified driver actually caused the harm, so supporting records carry weight. Dashcam or doorbell video, witness statements, a police report number, and medical records can all help, and some of that material can disappear quickly. A personal injury lawyer can review the policy language and notice deadlines to help a person see which steps remain open.
