Warrington, PA (September 3, 2026) – A 71-year-old woman was left in critical condition after a driver backed out of a driveway at high speed and struck her while she was walking along Addison Way on Monday, August 31. She was thrown several feet and left bleeding from her head, police said.
The driver, identified by police as a 60-year-old man, briefly got out of his vehicle before returning to it and driving away, according to investigators. He came back on foot a short time later but did not call for help.
A neighbor ended up contacting emergency services. Emergency units took the injured woman to a trauma center, where she remains in critical condition.
The driver now faces felony charges connected to the crash and has been released on unsecured bail, police said.
Investigators say the case remains open as they continue to gather information.
We hope the injured woman continues to recover fully.
Why Leaving the Scene Matters in a Warrington, PA Injury Claim
Under Pennsylvania law, any driver involved in a collision is required to stop immediately and provide aid. If a driver fails to do so, it can lead to both criminal charges and civil consequences.
When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian and does not stop to help, a person can face injuries from broken bones to severe head trauma, and older adults in particular can face a longer, more complicated recovery.
Head injuries in particular require close monitoring in the days and weeks that follow, since symptoms are not always immediately obvious. The physical and financial toll of the injuries can continue well after the initial emergency room visit.
In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer in Philadelphia can help establish the timeline of the accident using surveillance footage, witness accounts, and cell phone records to show what happened and when.
Leaving the scene of a crash without stopping to help can be treated as an aggravating factor, which is why legal guidance can also help clarify how that conduct may affect a civil claim.
