Egg Harbor Township, NJ (May 17, 2025) – The Egg Harbor Township Police Department confirmed that on Friday, May 17, a fatal car crash occurred at Delaware and Fernwood Avenues.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Chevy Camaro operated by a 71-year-old man was traveling east on Delaware Ave approaching Fernwood Avenue when a 2022 Mini Cooper operated by a 19-year-old woman entered the intersection from the north.
As the first car went off-road to avoid a collision, two juveniles who had been walking home from Bargaintown Park were struck, one of whom sustained critical injuries at the scene.
One of the juveniles was taken to Shore Medical Center by the Egg Harbor Township EMS and AtlantiCare paramedics. The juvenile ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The second juvenile was treated at the scene with only minor injuries. In the meantime, no further details were released as an investigation remains ongoing, but witnesses were asked to step forward.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s loved ones. Our thoughts also go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Major Vehicle Crashes in New Jersey
Sadly, despite the efforts of manufacturers, lawmakers, and traffic experts, as well as the increasing number of programs encouraging safe driving, thousands of people are killed or injured in multi-vehicle incidents across New Jersey each year. In one recent year, our state’s transportation officials revealed that over 276,000 car accidents occurred in New Jersey, directly resulting in about 60,000 injuries.
All drivers are legally required to drive safely and refrain from endangering or harming other drivers or bystanders in the vicinity. Regretfully, not all drivers fulfill this implicit obligation. Careless driving endangers not just other drivers but also oneself and can result in deadly incidents. Despite vehicle and road safety improvements, traffic accidents continue to rise, endangering all drivers.
