Erie, PA (October 14, 2023) – An accident and a serious car fire held up traffic for at least two hours on Saturday along Interstate 90 in the eastbound lanes, per local officials and reports.
State Police and firefighters responded to the call. Authorities tell us the driver got out of their vehicle before the car went up in flames.
There have been no details yet on what caused the accident, but several paramedics responded to the scene and reportedly took a handful of people to the hospital.
The roadway has since reopened, but Erie-area officers and authorities continue to investigate at this time.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Motor Vehicle Wrecks in Pennsylvania
More than a quarter of all major auto accidents in Pennsylvania are caused by fender benders, defined as when two cars collide from behind. Even though rear-end crashes (also called “fender benders”) are often less severe than head-on collisions, they may inflict significant pain and incapacity in the days after the accident.
The force of a rear-end collision with a tractor-trailer might be sufficient to cause significant damage or even death.
Distracted drivers, who may be talking on the phone, texting, fiddling with the GPS settings, or rummaging in their vehicle’s trunk, are a common cause of these accidents. However, speeding cars, drivers who fail to check their rearview mirrors before pulling out of parking spots or driveways, drivers who follow too closely, drivers who abruptly stop for red lights or stop signs, and drivers who are navigating the roads in inclement weather are the most common causes of rear-end incidents.
If you suffered serious injuries in a rear-end incident that wasn’t your fault, the negligent driver should pay for your rehabilitation and any lost income or medical bills you incurred.
While insurance providers may be willing to cover the cost of necessary medical procedures, they often go to great lengths to avoid covering more costly services like long-term care or disability income replacement. They may help with some of the costs of urgent medical attention, but they generally won’t pay for everything.
