Gaines Township, PA (August 8, 2025) – One person is dead and two others were injured after a two-vehicle crash along Route 6 in Gaines Township on Tuesday, August 5, according to a release from Pennsylvania State Police.
A female motorcycle passenger died, while the driver is in unknown condition, after they were ejected during a crash when they were hit from behind by another vehicle around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, troopers said. The crash took place at the intersection of Route 6 and Shin Hollow Road in Gaines Township, Tioga County.
According to officers, the operator of the motorcycle began to slow down to make a left turn onto Shin Hollow Road to go to a business. While the motorcycle slowed down, the driver of the other vehicle did not and drove into the back of the bike.
The crash caused the two people on the motorcycle to be ejected, landing on the south shoulder of the road. The passenger of the motorcycle was taken to UPMC Wellsboro but was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital; their status is unknown at this time. The driver of the vehicle was also taken to UPMC Wellsboro for minor injuries. However, no further details have been released, and an investigation is ongoing.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s loved ones. Our thoughts also go out to any injured victims and their family members. We hope for their full and swift recovery.
Motorcycle Collisions in Pennsylvania

Motorcycle accidents consistently rank among Pennsylvania’s worst traffic collisions each year. The consequences may be catastrophic on busy thoroughfares or highways in densely populated places like Philadelphia and its suburbs. Tragically, the death toll from motorcycle accidents is disproportionately high.
Motorcycle accidents in Pennsylvania had a mortality rate up to 30 times greater than other types of vehicle incidents, according to a new study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). One of the most challenging aspects of recovering from an accident-related injury is proving the other party’s negligence. Insurance companies are notorious for doing all they can to pay as little as possible once a claim has been filed.

Because they lack several protections found in standard vehicles, motorcycles rank high on the list of potentially dangerous modes of transportation. Moreover, motorcycle riders who are in these accidents often suffer severe or even fatal injuries. You should see a Gaines Township injury attorney without delay if you were harmed in a motorcycle accident that wasn’t your fault or if you lost a loved one in a crash.
