Gloucester, NJ (January 26, 2022) – A local man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash that took place on a major roadway in Gloucester on Tuesday night, January 25.
According to local officials, the accident happened at 11:53 p.m. at night in the northbound lanes of NJ-42 around the area of milepost 9. Police confirmed that a 59-year-old local man got out of his vehicle with a passenger because it experienced a mechanical problem. The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as a 25-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital with injuries as well. She has since been arrested for driving under the influence, assault by auto, and death by auto.
All northbound lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues. Police will update as more information becomes available.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
