Gloucester Township, NJ (February 19, 2022) – A construction worker was injured in a pedestrian crash involving a hit-and-run driver in Gloucester on Friday night, February 18.
New Jersey State Police confirmed that the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of NJ-42. A driver was traveling through a construction zone when they suddenly struck a construction worker who was working in the area. The driver then fled the scene without stopping.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist those in need. The construction worker, who has not yet been identified, was rushed to Cooper Medical Center with injuries. They are expected to make a full recovery.
The driver who struck the pedestrian has since been found by police. The driver has since been identified as a 54-year-old woman from New Jersey. The woman is now facing charges including DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the construction zone for a period of time after the accident.
