Harrisburg, PA (August 8, 2023) – A charter bus carrying around 50 passengers was involved in a collision on Interstate 81 near Harrisburg, which resulted in the deaths of three persons.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident happened around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday in Lower Paxton Township, right outside of Harrisburg. The bus ran off the road, collided with a vehicle, and rolled onto its side.
At least three people were killed instantly, and several more were injured, some critically.
The incident is being treated as a mass casualty occurrence, Trooper Megan Frazer with the Pennsylvania State Police reported. Eight ambulances assisted officers and fire rescue teams at the crash site.
Most of the injured victims were taken to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. However, the total number of victims involved, as well as their current conditions, remains unknown.
It’s unclear what led to the crash, but troopers with the PSP are continuing to investigate.
