Hillsborough, NJ (September 4, 2024) – According to officers with the Hillsborough Police Department, a motor vehicle accident caused Auten Road in Hillsborough to close on Tuesday morning, September 3.
Hillsborough Police said in an alert around 9:35 a.m. that the crash was located near the railroad crossing, causing the temporary closure. That said, it was unclear exactly how many people were hurt and the extent of their injuries. No further information was released late Tuesday night as the office and other local agencies were still investigating the crash, but witnesses were asked to come forward during the interim.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes in New Jersey
Collisions between motor vehicles, including typical automobiles driven by most drivers, large trucks, motorcycles, and buses, occur on a regular basis throughout the state of New Jersey. Tragically, thousands of people are killed or wounded in these incidents every year, even though there are more and more programs urging safe driving and efforts made by politicians, manufacturers, and traffic experts. Sadly, more than 500 of the over 32,000 annual fatal auto accidents nationwide occurred in New Jersey. Moreover, our state’s transportation authorities reported more than 276,000 auto accidents in New Jersey in a single recent year, injuring almost 60,000 individuals as a direct consequence.

Every driver has a legal responsibility to operate their vehicle safely and avoid putting the lives of other drivers or bystanders in the area at risk or causing them harm. Unfortunately, not all drivers meet this unspoken duty. When drivers are careless on the road, they put themselves and other drivers in danger and may even cause fatal collisions. Increases in traffic accidents occur despite better car and road safety, posing a threat to all drivers.
