Jefferson County, PA (May 8, 2025) – A head-on collision on Harmony Road in Jefferson County sent two drivers and a passenger to the hospital Monday afternoon, according to a report from the Pennsylvania State Police in Punxsutawney.
The crash happened around 4:05 p.m. on May 5 along State Route 310 (Harmony Road), north of Young Road in Young Township. Investigators said a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 69-year-old Reynoldsville man was traveling southbound when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2022 Ford Bronco driven by a 38-year-old woman.
State police said the impact caused both vehicles to rotate and come to rest on opposite sides of the road. The man’s vehicle ended up facing east in the southbound lane. The woman’s Bronco came to rest facing southwest against a northbound guide rail.
The male driver suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to Penn Highlands DuBois by Reynoldsville Area Ambulance Service. The woman sustained what police described as critical injuries. She was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois by Jefferson County EMS. A 10-year-old passenger in the woman’s vehicle, who was not named in the report, was also transported to Penn Highlands DuBois with suspected minor injuries.
Elk Run Volunteer Fire Department, Central Volunteer Fire Department, McCalmont Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, Reynoldsville EMS, PennDOT, and Brosius Towing all assisted at the scene. In the meantime, an investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been provided.
Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their full recovery.
Head-on Crashes in Pennsylvania
The latest research and statistics from Commonwealth traffic analysts show that head-on collisions, T-bone crashes, and rear-end wrecks are the most common forms of vehicle accidents in Pennsylvania, and they frequently result in serious injuries or even fatalities. As these grim statistics show, drivers in our state need to be extra cautious since Pennsylvania averages over 20,000 accidents involving multiple vehicles yearly.
Most rear-end incidents in Pennsylvania are caused by drivers who are careless and reckless and who ignore traffic signals. What’s more, identifying who was to blame in a car crash may be simple most of the time, but it may be far more complicated than you’d think otherwise. And, like in a rear-end accident, a head-on collision means that your injuries will be proportional to the other driver’s speed. When one driver suddenly applies the brakes, the car behind them often has little choice except to slam into them, causing an accident.
The person who rear-ended you and seriously wounded you should pay for your medical bills and lost wages if you were not at fault. Unfortunately and unfairly, after a vehicle accident leaves a policyholder with several damages, the insurer may fight against claims for long-term care expenses and reimbursement for lost wages and future potential earnings all too often.
