Lakewood, NJ (January 27, 2022) – Around 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, January 26, a school bus crash occurred at an intersection in Lakewood.
Lakewood officials confirmed that the crash took place at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Seapoint Drive. A school bus was traveling in the area when it entered the intersection and a passenger vehicle did not stop in time. This caused the passenger to collide forcefully with the school bus. The vehicles sustained heavy damages due to the accident.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A total of four people sustained injuries in the accident. The injured parties were hospitalized, though their exact conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
School Bus Accidents in New Jersey
School bus accidents are not as common as other accidents on our roads. However, when they do occur, they tend to lead to some of the most catastrophic harm. New Jersey does not see a large percentage of school bus accidents every year. Between 2007 and 2016, it is estimated that only one person was killed in a school bus accident. Out of these accidents, approximately 173 people were injured in these accidents. The aftermath of a school bus accident can be a terrifying and overwhelming thing to experience. If you have sustained injuries in one of these collisions, you should have the help of an attorney on your side.
Being hurt in a school bus accident can impact your life in a variety of ways. You may be left with questions that you cannot answer without the help of an attorney on your side. For instance, consider the following:
- What deadlines will you be required to meet as you move forward with a claim?
- What evidence do you need to prove that a bus driver or another party is at fault for your accident?
- Will your claim be settled or will it make it all the way to trial?
Buses are common carriers, which means that they are expected to get passengers from one point to another for a fee. If you have sustained injuries in a bus crash, you should be prepared to speak with a Lakewood personal injury attorney who has your best interests in mind.
