Lakewood, NJ (January 28, 2022) – Injuries were reported in a school bus crash that took place at a Lakewood intersection on Wednesday evening, January 26.
The accident happened around 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Jessica Court. Police confirmed that a 19-year-old man was traveling east in a Nissan Sentra while a school bus operated by a 66-year-old woman was making a right turn at Jessica. The Sentra ran into the side of the bus when it was unable to stop in time. The vehicles involved in the accident were badly damaged as a result.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Three students on the bus were assessed for various injuries but are expected to recover. The driver of the Nissan and his 19-year-old female passenger both sustained head injuries and were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
Police issued a summons to the bus driver for careless driving. The driver of the Nissan also received a summons for driving while unlicensed.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
