Lancaster Co., PA (May 22, 2025) — A two-vehicle accident on the Route 222 southbound ramp leading to Route 30 westbound brought traffic to a halt Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 3:20 p.m., when one of the vehicles overturned and landed on its side, according to Lancaster County-Wide Communications. Emergency crews responded quickly, and one individual with injuries was transported to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation confirmed the ramp was closed following the collision, leading to significant traffic congestion in the area. Police and fire personnel remained on site, managing traffic flow and assisting with cleanup efforts.
By approximately 4:30 p.m., PennDOT reported that the scene had been cleared and all ramps in the area were reopened to drivers. However, motorists were advised to expect lingering delays as traffic returned to normal.
We hope the injured person recovers quickly.
Pennsylvania Car Crashes
Each year, over 104,000 vehicle crashes are reported throughout Pennsylvania, resulting in more than 61,000 injuries, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. What’s particularly troubling is that many of these incidents could have been avoided. Negligence remains a primary contributor to traffic-related injuries and fatalities in the state.
Across Pennsylvania, the most common causes of auto accidents stem from careless or reckless behavior. Driving under the influence, speeding, and ignoring traffic signals like stop signs and red lights are some of the top violations that lead to serious collisions. Other frequent causes include distracted or aggressive driving, veering across the center line, and making improper turns. In some situations, environmental factors like poor weather or mechanical issues with a vehicle can also play a role.
Rear-end collisions, for example, are one of the most prevalent accident types—and they’re often the result of a driver’s failure to pay attention or yield. Running stop signs, tailgating, or braking too late can easily lead to a crash that leaves someone seriously hurt.
While determining who is at fault can sometimes be clear-cut, not all cases are straightforward. That’s why having experienced legal representation matters.
