Manchester, NJ (April 1, 2022) – One person was killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a major highway in Manchester on Tuesday morning, March 29.
According to officials, the accident happened around 7:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 571 at the intersection with Whitesville Road. Police confirmed that a 30-year-old woman was traveling west in her Honda Civic when she collided with a Ford F-550. The driver of that vehicle was identified as a Department of Transportation employee, a 30-year-old man. The pickup truck then slammed into a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Corolla driven by a 58-year-old man.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Camry, identified as a 48-year-old man of Toms River, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Three other people involved in the accident were hospitalized with minor injuries. A fourth injured victim was airlifted to the hospital with severe trauma.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic for some time as police worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
