Pedestrian Deaths in Philadelphia
Pennsylvania’s yearly statistics show an increase in both the frequency and severity of pedestrian accidents. While fatalities decreased in 2016, there was an increase in the number of accidents that occurred on American roads. Signalized junctions have had a 20-year rise in deaths, whereas distracted driving and head-on collisions have seen an increase in fatalities over the last decade. In terms of pedestrian and motorist deaths over the last two decades, persons aged 65 to 74 have ranked second and third, respectively.
In addition, the number of pedestrian deaths throughout the nation has risen dramatically during the last decade. The Governors Highway Safety Association estimates that there will be 13% more road fatalities and 54% more pedestrian fatalities between 2010 and 2020.
Pedestrian accidents may happen everywhere, but roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots are particularly high-risk areas. The incidence of pedestrian accidents in our state highlights the need to provide victims with information about their legal rights and remedies.
