Philadelphia, PA (January 7, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Philadelphia around 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, January 7.

Authorities reported that the accident happened on 2500 North Broad Street. A 60-year-old man started to cross the street but, while doing so, he attempted to avoid a vehicle that was traveling northbound. As he was swerving out of the way, a Dodge Dart traveling in the right lane struck him. The driver of the Dart remained at the scene.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian was traumatically injured and was rushed to Temple University Hospital. He was tragically pronounced dead around 3:50 p.m.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania

Pedestrian accidents are known for being some of the most severe accidents on Pennsylvania roads. This is due to the fact that pedestrians have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. In 2017 alone, it was reported that approximately 5,977 pedestrians lost their lives in fatal accidents in the entirety of the U.S. This means that every 88 minutes, somebody is killed in one of these horrific and preventable accidents. Drivers are expected to pay close attention to the roads around them so that pedestrian accidents do not occur. However, these accidents continue to happen every single year. If you have sustained the loss of a loved one due to a pedestrian accident, you should have the assistance of an attorney on your side.
