Philadelphia, PA (January 26, 2022) – Around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday night, January 25, an officer was dragged in a pedestrian crash that occurred at an intersection in Philadelphia.
According to local officials, the accident happened at the intersection of 48th Street and Baltimore Avenue. An officer and his partner were trying to pull over a vehicle at the intersection of 53rd and Baltimore. The driver took off with the officer still inside, dragging him along before it slammed into an SUV that was parked at the intersection with 48th Street The accident was so forceful that it ripped a blue mailbox from the ground, causing it to catapult through the air.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The officer who was dragged was rushed to the hospital. He had a laceration to his neck, as well as some general bumps and bruises. He is expected to fully recover from the injuries.
The driver who caused the accident has since been identified as a 25-year-old male. He has since been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, fleeing police, and other offenses. Police recovered a stolen semi-automatic gun from him as well.
The road was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time following the collision.
