Philadelphia, PA (March 31, 2022) – Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, March 30, an officer was hurt in a serious pedestrian accident in Philadelphia.
According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened at 6700 Torresdale Avenue. Police confirmed that a man identified as Terrell Lee was traveling in the area when he started to swerve across the median of the road and entered the other lane of traffic. This is when he struck an officer from behind who was conducting a traffic stop. The officer was thrown approximately 10 feet into the air and Lee fled the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Witnesses saw the officer lying on the street and rushed to her aid. She received serious injuries to her head and body and was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The area was blocked for an extended period of time following the collision.
Police later found Lee about three miles away from the accident scene. He was taken into custody due to being intoxicated at the time of the accident and fleeing the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
