Philadelphia, PA (October 3, 2023) – After a pedestrian was hurt in a hit-and-run incident in Philadelphia late Saturday night, police have released multiple photographs of the car they believe may be responsible.
This occurred late Saturday night in the Point Breeze area of Philadelphia, near the intersection of 20th Street and Washington Avenue. According to the police, a suspect car, possibly an Infiniti, was seen heading east in the 2000 block of Washington Avenue.
A person crossing Washington Avenue heading south was hit and killed by a car.
The collision knocked the person to the ground, where he or she landed on top of another car. After the collision, both vehicles reportedly drove away from the area.
The victim remains in very serious condition at a local hospital.
The police are asking anyone who knows the drivers involved to contact them. An investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family members.
Pedestrian Accidents in Philadelphia
Regretfully, annual figures for Pennsylvania indicate a rise in the number and severity of pedestrian accidents. In 2016, there were fewer deaths on American roadways, but there were more accidents overall. Moreover, fatalities from head-on crashes and inattentive driving have increased over the last ten years, whereas deaths from signalized intersections have increased over the previous twenty years. Over the last 20 years, the 65 to 74 age range has ranked third in automobile fatalities and second in pedestrian deaths in Pennsylvania and beyond.
In addition, within the last ten years, there has been a sharp increase in pedestrian fatalities across the country. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, there will be a 54% rise in pedestrian fatalities and a 13% increase in traffic deaths between 2010 and 2020.
While incidents involving pedestrians may occur everywhere, parking lots, sidewalks, and roads provide a heightened danger. The necessity to educate victims about their legal rights and remedies is underscored by the increasing number of pedestrian accidents in our state.
