Philadelphia, PA (January 5, 2022) – Around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, a large fire ripped through a home in Philadelphia, taking the lives of several victims.
According to officials, they were called to the scene around 6:40 a.m. in an unidentified party of Fairmount, Philadelphia where they found that a two-unit home caught on fire. Numerous fire officials stated that it was one of the worst calls to which they have ever responded. They found flames shooting out the top of the windows on the second floor. Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control but it took about an hour to do so.
Several responders, including local paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A total of twelve people were killed as a result of the accident. Eight of those people were identified as children. Two people were also sent to the hospital with injuries, though their conditions are not yet known.
Fire crews have since found that the four smoke alarms in the building were not working, which may have failed to alert those in the building of the fire.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
